16.022018MGM Springfield Casino on Track to Open in September
Seven Months to the Anticipated Opening
MGM Springfield recently gave the Massachusetts Gaming Commission a document containing the details about MGM Springfield Casino construction. The long bar chart shows when every facet of the casino was started and when it is expected to be complete. Nearly all the projects run up against a bar, and the constructors have only six months to get it done.
That is when almost everything should be ready, by August, because the MGM Springfield casino will open its door in September. According to the document, only a few retail projects and the long-promised affordable housing constructions won’t be complete by then.
Springfield Casino will feature 125,000 sq. ft. of gaming space with a high-limit VIP gambling floor, a poker room, 100 tables, and 3,000 slot machines. Its 250 rooms will feature a roof deck, pool, and spa. The structure will have 55,000 sq. ft. of commercial space that will house 15 restaurants and shops.
One of the Five Proposed Sites
The possibility of a gambling casino here was a dream for many years even before the 3-year construction of MGM casino begun. There were different sites on consideration before the developer settled on Western Massachusetts. The other four were a site in Palmer, Cornfields in Westfield, Wykoff Country club in Holyoke, and the old Westinghouse site.
MGM Resorts International, a Las Vegas-based firm, settled for Springfield in 2012. This was followed by a statewide poll, a citywide poll, and different polls by the city council, the state gaming commission, and the state legislature.
And now the MGM casino is only 7 months away from being launched.
Jobs Opportunities at MGM Springfield Casino
There are jobs to filed at MGM Springfield casino. In November, MGM International opened a job center on ECA (East Columbus Avenues) where it’s screening and hiring applicants. The developer promised the state that the casino will create over 3,000 permanent jobs. Of this, about 2,200 will be on a full-time basis and it will have a budget of $90 for paying workers.
